The idea of a Community Health Fair was a joint idea of doctors Richard Jackson and David Wolf. Many people have simple things that bother them that require many different doctor visits. By bringing together a number of simple screening tests including blood pressure, glucose, HIV vision, dental, hearing, eye exams, skin problems, foot problems and back problems we hoped to give the community an outlet to have screening and referral done at one easily accessible location. Improving one’s life by being able to see or hear better may lead to improvements in other areas, for instance, in reading and interacting with others. We are targeting the medically underserved in Houston to achieve our objective. In addition we would like to provide a forum for referrals and follow up, to those who need the services, within the Third Ward medical community. |
